As technology becomes more complex, ensuring usability is a continuous but rewarding effort. If your clients, employees, and partners struggle to use your technology, they become frustrated – and you fall behind. In order to remain competitive and provide fully-featured yet user friendly technology, it is crucial to follow industry standards for user interface design and user experience. Spruce Technology understands the importance of UI/UX and we predicate our best practices on the following 7 principles:
-
Focus on consistency with brandin
We take the time to understand your existing brand specifications so that our design is compliant with the requirements of your organization. This ensures that our output is aligned with the brand specifications. To accomplish brand consistency, our team will focus on understanding existing theme specifications, devices to be used for the application, and personas.
2. Sketching and prototyping
A picture showing our end goals is worth a thousand descriptions. To this end, we will develop sketches of the application depicting dynamic and static elements of the application for user review and feedback. We use tools such as Microsoft Visio to develop static wireframes of the proposed application for review. To represent dynamic data and server controls, we will develop interactive prototypes using tools such as Balsamiq or Axure.
3. Know where to get creative
Every web application is meant to serve a certain purpose. We take into account the purpose of the application when making creative decisions on UI and UX. A portal places emphasis on search and display, so our team prioritizes the display side of the user experience. A case or customer relationship management application requires transition between modules, so we prioritize navigation or page transition.
4. Employ simplicity & clarity
Our goal is always to ensure the application is simple to use for the end user, and clear for the in-house staff to maintain. To promote ease of navigation, we stress consistency in how the user interacts with the application. Our team ensures a consistent standard for how artifacts (logos, trigger elements, images) are maintained.
5. Design to capture attention
We maintain a library of styles and themes for server controls (such as data grids, list views, web forms) and client controls (such as messages, tool tips, and more). This existing library provides a head start—a base on which we can customize styles to ensure optimal user experience for our clients’ specific needs.
6. Explore efficiency needs
Pages need to load faster, and pages need to adapt to different devices. Our team of designers is experienced in using objects on pages to address both requirements. We understand, for instance, that in some cases, scrolling is preferred to paging and vice versa. We design pages with efficiency in mind.
7. Use responsive design
Our design team has expertise in cross platform JavaScript libraries such as JQuery and our focus over the last 4 years has been response design. We have developed pages to handle specific events, provide animations and provide a platform on which our customers can create highly involved Ajax enabled
